2021 Riverhill Tennis Highlights

2021 was a great year for many of our members who continue to play tournaments and represent team Riverhill Tennis. Listed below are some of their achievements this past year.

Kendra Werlein

January: Mark Benak won his first event for the year. Mark and his partner won the Cotton Bowl Major Zone Men’s 4.0 doubles tournament held in Dallas.

March: Kendra Werlein placed 3rd representing Our Lady of The Hills Catholic School at the TAPPS 3a Tennis Championships held in Waco

 

April: Trei Gohlke placed second after winning three matches to make the finals where he played a 3 set close match osing 5/7 in the third set.at the Kerrville UTR tennis event. Congratulations to Rick Perry and his team for winning the men’s 55 and over 9.0 league. Rick and the team will head to nationals later in the summer.  Rolinda Schmidt had a great 2020 and qualified for the USTA National Women’s 3.0 singles held in Surprise Arizona. Mark Benak also qualified for the Men’s 4.0 doubles that was held in Surprise Arizona.

May: Lots of members played the Texas Sectional Tournament this past Memorial weekend held at Westwood CC in Austin. Mark Benak won the men’s 55 4.0 doubles. Rick and Holly Perry won the 60 mixed and Rick won the 60 doubles also. Tennis Director Garry Nadebaum won the men’s 45s and men’s 50 doubles events. Trei Gohlke won the UTR tournament held in Kerrville

July: Kimberly Nadebaum, Dawn Tisdale and Cindy Collins played on a USTA Women’s 4.0 team in San Antonio and have won the City Championships. The team now advances to sectional to be played in Houston the last weekend in August. Mark Benak Men’s 4.0 team has also won the City Championships and also advanced to Sectionals in Houston.

August: Kimberly Nadebaum, Dawn Tisdale and Cindy Collins played the women’s 4.0 teams sectional championships in Houston. Overall, they won 2 matches and lost 2 close matches coming down to games won and lost. The Dallas team were overall winners and advanced to Nationals to represent Texas. Dallas ended up placing 3rd at Nationals.

September: Rick and Holly Perry placed second at the USTA National Husband/Wife combined age 120’s doubles held in Peachtree Georgia. This is a great achievement and their first USTA silver ball. Wayne Hughes and Tim Roehrick won the men’s 50’s and up Schreiner Tennis Classic.

November: Mark Benak has placed 2nd in 4.0 mixed doubles at the Tyler Texas Adult Major Zone. Trei Gohlke has had a few great weeks at USTA Junior Tournaments Trei placed second in San Antonio and also second place in the Junior USTA Kerrville tournament also.

December: Mark Benak and his partner placed 2nd at the USTA Senior Sectionals in San Antonio. in the Men’s 4.0 doubles This qualifies Mark and his partner for the USTA National Men’s 4.0 doubles Championships held April 2022 in Alabama.
